What are the stages of the NIFT B.Des entrance?
B.Des candidates take the General Ability Test (GAT) and the Creative Ability Test (CAT). Shortlisted candidates then take the Situation Test, a hands-on 3D model-making test.
What is the NIFT CAT?
The Creative Ability Test is a pen-and-paper test of drawing, creativity, colour and design ability, often built around themes, products, patterns and people.
What is the NIFT Situation Test?
Shortlisted B.Des candidates build a 3D model from the materials provided, based on a theme, and are judged on creativity, use of materials, construction and how well they explain their idea.
Do I need to know stitching or tailoring for NIFT?
No. NIFT tests creativity and aptitude, not tailoring skills. You learn garment construction in college.
When is the NIFT entrance exam?
The written exam is usually held in January or February, with applications opening a few months earlier. Confirm dates in the official admission notification at nift.ac.in.
Where can I take a NIFT mock test?
The Design Habitat's online NIFT mock tests at thedesignhabitat.com/mock-tests include the 100-question GAT with +1/−0.25 marking and a 3-hour CAT reviewed by mentors. Mock 1 is free.
